When NANA the movie finally released in Japan, people were going crazy about the wonderful, "high-pitched", voice of Ito and the movie song Endless Story ended its first day of sales on number 2 of Japan's Oricon charts. Ito was on magazine covers, posters and eventually had her first TV appearance on Music Station, performing Endless Story. Endless story became her debut song that led to some later roles in japanese movies.

Her first album True released in August 2002 was a #1 hit in the Oricon charts. In 3 weeks, True sold a million copies. Then as commemoration of one year since her debut, Mika released a Premium EP Resistance, which hit the charts #1 spot two weeks in a row. On December 18, a documentary video Kiseki: the document of a start was released. In 2002, Mika received the "New Artist of the Year" award at the Japan Gold Disc Awards, and "Best New Artist of the Year" at the All Japan Request Awards 2002. She also won the "New Artist of the Year" award from the 44th Japan Record Awards.

BoA entered into the Japanese music industry soon after signing with Avex Trax. In 2001 she debuted with a Japanese version of ID; Peace B. The single reached #20 on the Oricon chart. ID; Peace B was followed by subsequent singles Amazing Kiss (#23), 気持ちはつたわる (Kimochi wa Tsutawaru) (#15), and LISTEN TO MY HEART (#5). The single LISTEN TO MY HEART became her first major success in Japan and went on to sell over 180,000 copies

With the release of her 39th single Startin' / Born To Be... in 2006, Hamasaki became the first female singer to have 27 #1 singles (the most #1 singles a Japanese female artist has ever achieved) and 38 singles in the Top 10 of the Japanese Oricon charts. She has 15 consecutive #1 singles to date (starting from Free & Easy). Hamasaki is also the first Japanese artist to have her first original eight studio albums top the charts.

Koda's first single after the ~12 Singles~ Collection was Koi no Tsubomi, released in May 2006. It charted second in its debut week with sales of 140,000 copies sold. This was the highest debut week sales for female artists in 2006 until Ayumi Hamasaki surpassed it with BLUE BIRD in June. Soon afterwards, Koda reclaimed the title with the release of "4 hot wave", which also ranked second behind KinKi Kids, nearly breaking their streak of consecutive #1 singles. Up until 4 hot wave, it makes it Koda's 19th consecutive single to debut in the top 10 since Kiseki.
